The Results…
Dec 2024
Back in October I submitted my picture book to the Words and Pictures Slush Pile Challenge - a SCBWI competition for unagented authors to showcase their work.
I didn’t win - but the experience was really valuable!
I had the opportunity to practise editing my work to meet the judge’s brief
My story was read by Millie van Grutten of RCW Literary Agency
I chatted online with other entrants, including the winning author - Jenny Moore.
I’ve had a ‘reality check’ of just how fierce the competition is! Ha!
Well done to Jenny, whose entry ‘One Lonely Stick Insect’ hit Millie’s brief perfectly. It had search and find elements, was funny, and brilliantly structured.
Millie van Grutten said:
“Enormous thanks to everyone that submitted […] there was so much to enjoy in there and the submissions were strong.” “It was a joy to see the breadth of stories and characters that writers had come up with and the humour that came across in so many of them. As we near the end of the year, it’s always lovely to read something that makes you laugh.”
