Sounds delicious!

My writing needed improving, so here’s what I did…

While working on my proposal for my gardener story back in March, I came across successful children’s author, Caryl Hart.

I revisited her stories and website and felt drawn to Caryl’s down to earth ‘can do’ attitude. So much so, I felt led to contact her. But what a crazy idea! How would Caryl react to a nobody author saying, ‘Hey! I like you and your work. Will you help me to improve mine?’

I bottled it! I decided that Caryl would ignore me (at best) or tell me to ‘shove off’ (at worst).

A few weeks later I got ‘the nudge’ again. Out of nowhere the strong urge to contact Caryl came back. Only this time (as I nervously searched for her contact info on her website) I saw that Caryl had started offering mentoring for picture book authors! I knew this was the green light I needed.

After the first session I saw an immediate improvement in my knowledge and writing.

After three sessions the difference was HUGE. I’ve learnt so much! I rewrote my latest story about a monkey. What a transformation!

I’m so pleased that I acknowledged my need to improve, and I'm taking big scary steps to do so. Caryl has been encouraging and complimentary. She is helping me understand how to take my raw idea, add in special ingredients, and bake it ‘til it sounds delicious!

Too cheesy? Err…YES!
